The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, legal and advocacy 501(c)(4) organization and freedom's watchdog in the Sunshine State.
Florida's 2022 legislative session officially begins January 11, 2022, and ends sixty-days later on March 11, 2022. During this legislative session, we will work on a broad range of issues including, but not limited to: criminal justice reform, voting rights, immigrants’ rights, reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and free speech.
Each year, ACLU-FL reviews over 3,000 bills introduced in the Florida Legislature for civil liberties implications, identifying those bills that we are going to advocate for or against and developing strategies accordingly.
We educate legislators and the public about ACLU positions, draft legislation on priority issues, lobby on bills affecting civil liberties, testify or arrange for testimony on bills, and build coalitions to pursue pro-active legislative initiatives or battle anti-civil liberties legislation. In addition, Florida legislators and their staff often ask us for analysis on pending bills.

Chills speech and penalizes state agencies and local governments, employees, contractors, public universities, colleges, and public schools for discussing the root causes and longlasting economic, social, and political implications of racial and gender discrimination.
This cruel bill would criminalize doctors for providing necessary health care to transgender youth.
Bans abortion after 6 weeks, before most people even know they are pregnant. Creates a bounty-hunter system in which anyone can bring a lawsuit against a medical professional or any other person who assists a pregnant person in seeking abortion care.
Incentivizes and rewards rehabilitation in prison, reduces recidivism and increases public safety, saves hundreds of millions of dollars that can be reinvested in mental health and drug treatment services, educational programming, and vocational skills training.

Repeals SB 168, the anti-immigrant statute that usurped local discretion on public safety priorities by requiring local law enforcement to hold anyone in jail whenever requested by federal immigration authorities, increasing family separation and deportation.
