Jacksonville-based northeast regional office covers 20-county area; previous director became Executive Director of ACLU of the Nation’s Capital

JACKSONVILLE - The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Florida has hired Carlos Ivan Ramos as its new Director of the Northeast Florida Regional Office in Jacksonville.

Ramos has more than 12 years of experience as a non-profit manager, and a wealth of experience building relationships and working with diverse communities.

Ramos most recently served as Executive Director of the Hispanic Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program (Hispanic UMADAOP) in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director of the Northeast Ohio Jazz Society (NOJS) and the Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center, also both in Cleveland. In addition, Ramos served on the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Ohio for about four years.

Ramos is a native of Puerto Rico and is fluent in three languages; English, Spanish and Portuguese. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Puerto Rico and has an M.S. and a Ph.D. from the University of Utah.

Ramos fills the position vacated when immediate past Northeast Florida Regional Director Benétta M. Standly became the Executive Director of the ACLU of the Nation’s Capital in Washington, DC.

 

The ACLU of Florida Northeast Region encompasses a 20-county area including the Greater Jacksonville area, Volusia and Flagler counties, Gainesville, and the surrounding areas.
