The ACLU of Florida is comprised of two separate corporate entities, the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida and the ACLU Foundation of Florida. Although both the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU Foundation are part of the same overall organization, it is necessary that the ACLU have two separate organizations in order for the ACLU of Florida to do a broad range of work in protecting civil liberties. This web site collectively refers to the two organizations under the name "ACLU of Florida."
Supporters of the ACLU of Florida can choose to make a contribution to the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida, the ACLU Foundation of Florida or both. A contribution to either organization will be used to support, promote and defend civil liberties.
Both organizations support the ACLU of Florida’s extensive litigation, communications and public education programs. However, certain important activities carried out by the ACLU of Florida cannot be supported with tax-deductible gifts. This is primarily in the area of lobbying, because federal law limits the amount that a tax-exempt organization like the ACLU Foundation of Florida can spend on lobbying.
