Position Overview

The Individual Giving Officer (IGO) is a key member of the Development Department, reporting to the Director of Philanthropy. This role focuses on cultivating and stewarding relationships with mid-level donors, ensuring their ongoing support for the ACLU’s work. The IGO will draft donor communications, manage a portfolio of donors, and engage in direct interactions to inspire and increase donor contributions. This position can be remote anywhere in Florida or based in our Miami office and requires occasional travel within the state, with possible out-of-state travel for training.

Key Responsibilities
Donor Identification, Cultivation, Solicitation & Stewardship:

  • Develop and manage a statewide portfolio of mid-level donors, focusing on renewal, retention, and upgrading of financial support.
  • Create and implement personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies, including multi-year giving campaigns.
  • Regularly interact with donors to understand their interests, providing program updates and soliciting gifts for various campaigns.
  • Develop new relationships with potential donors, with an emphasis on first-time philanthropists.
  • Identify and refer prospects with major giving potential to the appropriate development staff.
  • Solicit one-time and pledged gifts at the $1,000-$10,000 level.
  • Organize multi-year giving campaigns focused on recurring gifts.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Meet portfolio goals including number of personalized donor interactions across channels each week and month.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions and donor activities in Salesforce, ensuring timely follow-up and progress tracking.
  • Provide reports on donor engagement activities, portfolio performance, and progress towards fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate with national ACLU development colleagues and stay informed about national initiatives and priorities.

Collaboration & Strategy Development:

  • Participate in the development and execution of donor engagement strategies to support ACLU's mission.
  • Assist with special events and virtual donor briefings, targeting key donor groups.
  • Stay well-versed in current ACLU initiatives and effectively represent the organization in donor interactions to promote increased memberships and support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with at least 2 years of experience in donor communication or fundraising, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the ACLU, with a demonstrated passion for civil liberties and social justice.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive and compelling messages.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $55,000 - $70,000, commensurate with experience.
