Carver Middle School Gay-Straight Alliance v. School Board of Lake County, Florida

The ACLU and ACLU of Florida filed a lawsuit in December 2013 on behalf of a seventh-grade student at Carver Middle School in Leesburg who sought to form a Gay-Straight Alliance at her school. GSAs are student groups that seek to combat bullying against all students, including LGBT students. Although the School Board settled prior litigation regarding the same club in the 2012-13, in the 2013-14 school year the School Board refused to continue to allow the club to meet. The litigation is ongoing, and trial is set for March 2, 2015.
