TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Senate Appropriations Committee today voted to pass House Bill 1 (HB 1), Gov. DeSantis’ anti-protest bill. The measure passed aims to silence, criminalize, and penalize Floridians for exercising their First Amendment right to protest.
The bill would prohibit transgender students from playing sports on teams that match their gender identity. It also discriminates against individuals on the basis of sex and because they are transgender, in violation of the United States Constitution and Title IX of the Civil Rights Act.
