This landmark legislation builds on key federal protections in the 1965 Voting Rights Act that have been eroded over the past decade by the U.S. Supreme Court. It also expands access to voting by allowing eligible Floridians to register to vote at any time – up to and including Election Day – and automatically registers eligible Floridians to vote when they interact with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, unless they opt out. Additionally, the bill repeals anti-voter laws the state has passed in recent years that create intentional barriers to voting.
